Our craft
At Anisence, we turn beloved anime characters into fragrance through storytelling, not imitation. Every eau de parfum begins long before a bottle is filled. It begins with understanding. Here's exactly how a character becomes a scent.
Fragrance as storytelling
To us, a fragrance is emotion, memory and symbolism: the quiet essence of a character, captured in a form you can wear.
Our team brings together expertise in perfumery and in anime narrative study, and we work with the care and intention you'd usually find in a niche luxury fragrance house.
We immerse ourselves in each character's world, exploring their history, their symbolism, their emotional arc and the subtle details that make them who they are. Only once we truly understand their story do we start on the perfume.
"A fragrance crafted not just to smell beautiful, but to feel like the character."
The foundation
Every perfume unfolds in three layers that evaporate at different speeds. We choose each note for a top, heart and base with precision, and treat those layers the way a story treats a character: the first impression, the person underneath, and what stays with you after they're gone.
Top notes · first minutes
How the character enters a scene: their attitude, their energy and the reputation that arrives before them. Top notes are bright and fleeting, and they set your expectations.
Heart notes · the next few hours
Once the opening settles, the heart reveals itself: their motivation, their vulnerability, the contradictions you only discover later in the story.
Base notes · hours on skin
What lingers after they leave the room: their strength, their history, the quiet truths beneath the surface. Woods, resins and musks anchor the scent and last the longest.
The method
Layer by layer, the notes become a portrait. This is the path every Anisence fragrance takes.
Before any note is chosen, we go back to the source. We revisit the episodes and chapters that define the character and study their history, their symbolism, their emotional arc and the small details fans hold on to.
Questions we ask
A great character can't be summed up in one word, but a great fragrance can't carry twenty ideas either. We distil everything we've learned into a handful of core truths, and find the one contrast that makes them unforgettable: the softness beneath the confidence, the hunger beneath the calm.
The output
This is where story becomes scent. Every ingredient is selected because it says something true: a citrus that mirrors a moment of clarity, a floral that embodies vulnerability, a resin that echoes strength. Each note carries its own weight, its own symbolism and its own emotional temperature.
The principle
We don't recreate what a character might literally smell like. We choose notes that create the feeling they give you. See how we read each note.
Next we decide where each truth lives in time. What fans notice first goes in the top, their hidden depths go in the heart, and their legacy settles into the base. Wearing the scent should feel like getting to know them, one layer at a time.
Balancing act
Too literal and it becomes a costume. Too safe and the character disappears. We refine the proportions until the story and the perfume work together.
Drafts are tested on perfumery blotters to judge their structure, then on skin to see how they really behave: how the opening fades, how the heart blooms, how long the base lingers. Every round answers one question. Does this feel like them yet?
What we check
Once a formula feels right, it's finished as an eau de parfum, hand made and hand packaged in small batches in the UK. Inuzunaa illustrates the character in his signature style for the label, scented cards and artwork, and new characters launch as community campaigns.

How a character becomes a scent, answered.
We immerse ourselves in the character's history, symbolism and emotional arc first. Then we choose each top, heart and base note for a reason: a citrus for a moment of clarity, a floral for vulnerability, a resin for strength, a mineral accord for solitude. Layer by layer, those notes become a portrait of the character.
No, and that's intentional. We transform characters through storytelling, not imitation. Each scent captures the feeling a character gives you, so it's recognisable to fans and still a refined eau de parfum that stands on its own.
Anisence was founded in July 2023 by Rin, who began her career as an assistant perfume stylist and at the head office of a bespoke perfume company. She works alongside illustrator Inuzunaa, storyteller Wakubii and photographer Branka in a team of five, combining perfumery knowledge with in-depth anime character research.
Gojo. Our first collection was inspired by Jujutsu Kaisen: Nobara, Itadori, Megumi, Gojo and Sukuna. Gojo was the first fragrance we developed, and Megumi was the most challenging to finalise.
During a three-month trip to Japan in 2023, our founder Rin visited Primaniacs in Ginza, Tokyo, a boutique specialising in anime fragrances. She became fascinated by how each note might link to a character, and founded Anisence in the UK that July.
They're the three layers of a perfume, which evaporate at different speeds. Top notes are what you smell first and fade fastest. Heart notes form the main body of the scent over the next few hours. Base notes are the richest materials and stay on skin the longest.
New characters launch as campaigns, and the community decides which ones reach full release. Every scented card, 2ml or bundle counts as a sale: 25 sales unlocks the 5ml and 50 sales unlocks the 50ml.
Our scented blotter card sets let you compare a series' characters side by side at home. Once you've found your favourite, 2ml samples start from £6.00, so you can wear it for a few days before choosing a full bottle.
Yes. Every Anisence fragrance is vegan and cruelty free, hand made and hand packaged in small batches in the UK.
Every bottle is the end of a long character study, brought to life with luxury, intention and soul.
